Helping Teens and Preteens Build Confidence, Balance, and Emotional Resilience
The preteen and teenage years can be full of change — new responsibilities, social pressures, growing independence, and shifting family dynamics. For many kids and teens, these transitions can bring intense emotions or behaviors that feel confusing and hard to manage.
As a parent, it can be painful to watch your child struggle and not know how to help. Therapy can provide a structured, compassionate space for your child or teen to understand their emotions, build coping skills, and strengthen communication within your family.
Who I Work With
I provide therapy for children (ages 10+), teens, and young adults who are:
Feeling overwhelmed by emotions, anxiety, or stress
Experiencing sadness, low motivation, or withdrawal
Engaging in self-harm or other risky behaviors
Struggling with body image or eating concerns
Having difficulty managing friendships or school demands
Facing attention or learning challenges impacting confidence
How Therapy Can Help
Through a warm, collaborative process, I help teens and families:
Understand and manage strong emotions
Build coping and problem-solving skills
Strengthen self-esteem and confidence
Improve communication with parents and peers
Develop healthier relationships with food and body
Build structure and organization for school success
Therapy provides a place where teens can talk openly, learn practical tools, and begin to feel more in control of their emotions and choices.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for Teens and Families
I have extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and have led DBT skills groups for teens and families for over a decade.
DBT is an evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals who struggle with intense emotions, impulsivity, or self-harming behaviors. It focuses on teaching practical, effective skills in four key areas:
Mindfulness: Learning to stay present and grounded
Distress Tolerance: Managing crises and reducing impulsive reactions
Emotion Regulation: Understanding and balancing strong feelings
Interpersonal Effectiveness: Communicating clearly and maintaining healthy relationships
Parents often share that DBT gives their family a shared language and set of tools to navigate difficult moments with greater understanding and calm.
